Plastics and sport: Football kicks out non recyclables

As the entertainment and leisure industries have been taking a closer look at how to cull their use of single-use plastics, such as non-recyclable PVC cups and bottles, the sport world is now following suit and trying to help tackle the plastic pollution problem.

Tottenham Hotspur FC announced their commitment to reducing their single-use plastic footprint across the Club's operations, by eliminating the use of disposable straws and single-use, disposable cups and focusing on more re-usable options.

We're thrilled to see such a high-profile football team with such a huge influence on younger and older generations adopting this stance and having a positive, greener impact with regard to plastics and promotional packaging in general.

At Peregrine, we have also tried to do our bit within the sporting world.  With the World Cup around the corner, we have produced a line of specialised football themed novelty cups for Slush Puppie, made of the very versatile and fully recyclable Polypropilene plastic.

We constantly aim to highlight the importance of re-usable, recyclable promotional cups and bottles which don't simply end up in a bin after purchase. For instance, our twister cups are specifically manufactured to be re-used and taken home; the materials we use for our yards are always made out of 100% recyclable PET plastic.

Of course, there is still a long way to go with tackling plastic pollution, but we can definitely see the impact reusable plastic is having. We will continue to vigorously research and ensure the materials we use are environmentally friendly and reusable, and hope more and more industries follow suit.

Tackling Plastics: A Greener Future for Promotional Packaging

Single-use plastic is a huge detriment to the environment; it clogs up landfills, pollutes oceans and threatens wildlife.

As an environmentally conscious company, our Peregreen ethos centres on finding innovative ways to ensure our products stay at the highest quality, while remaining environmentally friendly.

We are therefore extremely pleased that Theresa May has promised to tackle the issue of plastic, and both the UN and EU have passed resolutions to eliminate plastic pollution.

To do our share, we implement biodegradable materials such as PLA plastics to create our biodegradable cups and straws.  You may have also noticed our slush yards; these are our promotional cups made in unique shapes with creative designs. They are made out of PET plastic, which is fully recyclable.  We also supply 3-ply paper straws - currently the highest quality on the market.

It is our hope that May’s pledge and both the EU and UN’s promises to crackdown on plastic will help encourage other brands to find innovative ways to use recyclable plastics and materials and will result in a greener, more environmentally friendly future for promotional packaging in general.

It will also push us at Peregrine to continuously update our products with the highest quality and most environmentally-friendly materials, strongly maintaining our position as a green company and re-inforcing our Peregreen ethos.
